Summary

CVE-2023-43810 is a vulnerability that affects OpenTelemetry, an open-source Observability framework used for generating, collecting, and exporting telemetry data. The vulnerability arises from the autoinstrumentation feature, which adds an unbounded number of labels to the `http_method`. This can lead to memory exhaustion in the server when numerous malicious requests with random and long HTTP methods are sent. To be affected, a program must have HTTP handlers instrumented and not filter unknown HTTP methods at various levels such as CDN, LB, or previous middleware. The vulnerability has been patched in version 0.41b0. The National Vulnerability Database rates this vulnerability as HIGH severity with a base score of 7.5 due to its potential impact on availability.
