Summary

CVE-2023-42811 is a vulnerability in the aes-gcm library, specifically in versions 0.10.0 to 0.10.3. This vulnerability exposes the decrypted ciphertext even if tag verification fails during the AES GCM decryption process. If a program using the affected APIs accesses the buffer after decryption failure, it may contain an unauthenticated input decryption, potentially enabling Chosen Ciphertext Attacks (CCAs) and leading to full plaintext recovery. The issue has been fixed in version 0.10.3 of the library. The vulnerability has a base severity of MEDIUM with a base score of 4.7 and requires high privileges for exploitation. The attack vector is local, and it has a high impact on integrity but low impact on confidentiality.
