Summary

CVE-2023-42804 is a path traversal vulnerability found in BigBlueButton, an open-source virtual classroom software. The vulnerability exists in versions prior to 2.6.0-beta.1 and allows an attacker with a valid starting folder path to access and read files without authentication, as long as the files have specific extensions (txt, swf, svg, png). In the latest version, input validation was added to prevent this vulnerability. There are no known workarounds for this issue. The vulnerability poses a medium risk with a base score of 5.3 according to [email protected], as it can lead to unauthorized access and potential data compromise for organizations using affected versions of BigBlueButton.
