Summary
CVE-2023-42464 is a Type Confusion vulnerability affecting the Spotlight RPC functions in Netatalk's afpd, specifically versions before 3.1.17. The issue lies in the lack of proper type checking in the dalloc_value_for_key() function, which returns an object associated with a given key. An attacker can manipulate the key's value to control the pointer of the returned object, potentially leading to Remote Code Execution on the host. This vulnerability shares similarities with CVE-2023-34967, as both involve type confusion and the potential for code execution.
