Summary

CVE-2023-42458 is a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability affecting the Zope web application server versions 4.8.10 and 5.8.5. The vulnerability occurs when uploading an SVG image and tricking a user into following a specially crafted link. It is important to note that an image tag with an SVG image as the source is not vulnerable, even if the SVG image contains malicious code. To mitigate this vulnerability, patches are available in Zope versions 4.8.10 and 5.8.5, and as a workaround, ensure that the "Add Documents, Images, and Files" permission is only assigned to trusted roles since by default, only the Manager has this permission. This vulnerability has a base severity rating of MEDIUM with low privileges required and user interaction required for exploitation, impacting confidentiality and integrity at a low level but no availability impact on the organization's systems.
