CVE-2023-42453 is a vulnerability that affects Synapse, an open-source Matrix homeserver developed by the Matrix.org Foundation. The vulnerability allowed users to forge read receipts for any event by knowing the room ID and event ID, even if they were not in the room. This could lead to confusion as clients would display the event as read by the user. The issue has been fixed in version 1.93.0 of Synapse, and users are advised to upgrade to this version.
