Summary

CVE-2023-42445 is a vulnerability affecting the Gradle build tool, specifically versions 7.6.3 and 8.4. The vulnerability allows for XML external entity (XXE) attacks, which can lead to the exfiltration of local text files to a remote server. However, in order for this attack to occur, the XML files being parsed by Gradle must contain XML external entities. To address this vulnerability, Gradle has disabled the resolution of XML external entities in all use cases in versions 7.6.3 and 8.4, preventing the parsing of XML files with such entities. This vulnerability poses a high risk to organizations as it can potentially result in unauthorized access and leakage of sensitive information.
