Summary

CVE-2023-42439 is a Server Side Request Forgery (SSRF) vulnerability in GeoNode, an open source platform for geospatial data. The vulnerability exists in version 3.2.0 and allows a user to bypass existing controls and request internal services, potentially exposing sensitive data from the internal network. The application uses a whitelist to validate hosts, but this can be bypassed by tricking the application with credentials such as `@` or `%40`. A patch for this vulnerability is available in version 4.1.3.post1 of GeoNode. The vulnerability has a base severity rating of MEDIUM, with low privileges required and no user interaction necessary for exploitation. The impact is rated as HIGH for confidentiality, and the exploitability score is 2.8 out of 10.
