Summary

CVE-2023-42319 is a cyber vulnerability affecting Geth (aka go-ethereum) versions up to 1.13.4. When the --http --graphql option is enabled, remote attackers can exploit this vulnerability to cause a denial of service by consuming excessive memory and causing the daemon to hang through a crafted GraphQL query. The vendor has acknowledged that the affected graphql endpoint is not designed to withstand attacks or handle large amounts of traffic. This vulnerability poses a high danger as it can lead to a complete disruption of service for organizations using vulnerable versions of Geth. To remediate this issue, organizations should update their Geth software to a version that includes the necessary security patches provided by the vendor.
