Details
Summary
CVE-2023-41895 is a Cross-site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting Home Assistant, an open-source home automation system. The login page allows users to authenticate with their Home Assistant credentials and redirect to external websites. While `redirect_uri` validation usually ensures matching `client_id` and HTTP/HTTPS schemes, Home Assistant fetches `client_id` and searches for `<link rel="redirect_uri" href="...">` tags, bypassing scheme validation. attackers can exploit this to inject arbitrary JavaScript code via `javascript:` scheme URIs, potentially leading to a full Home Assistant account takeover. The issue has been resolved in version 2023.9.0, and users are strongly advised to upgrade without delay. No known workarounds exist for this vulnerability.
