Summary

CVE-2023-41879 is a vulnerability affecting Magento LTS, the official OpenMage LTS codebase. It allows guest orders to be viewed without authentication by exploiting a "guest-view" cookie that contains the order's "protect_code." This code, which is only 6 hexadecimal characters, is not sufficient to prevent a brute-force attack. Each order would require a separate brute force attack to be exposed. The issue has been patched in versions 19.5.1 and 20.1.1 of Magento LTS. This vulnerability poses a potential danger to organizations as it could lead to unauthorized access and exposure of guest orders, compromising confidentiality and potentially causing reputational damage.
