Summary

CVE-2023-41046 is a vulnerability in XWiki Platform, a generic wiki platform that allows the execution of Velocity code without proper script rights. By creating an XClass with a property of type "TextArea" and content type "VelocityCode" or "VelocityWiki," an attacker can execute Velocity code regardless of the author's rights. Although the code is executed with the correct context author, it still provides access to otherwise inaccessible data and APIs, potentially enabling privilege escalation. This vulnerability affects multiple products and can be remediated by updating to XWiki version 7.2 or later to separate script rights from user permissions.
