Summary

CVE-2023-40576 is a vulnerability found in FreeRDP, a free implementation of the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). The vulnerability is an Out-Of-Bounds Read in the `RleDecompress` function. This occurs because FreeRDP does not properly check if the `pbSrcBuffer` variable contains sufficient data, which could lead to errors or crashes. The affected versions are those prior to version 3.0.0-beta3. To remediate this vulnerability, users are advised to upgrade to the latest version of FreeRDP. There are no known workarounds for this issue. This vulnerability has a base severity rating of MEDIUM and can be exploited over a network without requiring any privileges or user interaction. The potential danger it poses to an organization includes the possibility of unauthorized access or disruption of RDP sessions.
