Summary
CVE-2023-40180 is a vulnerability affecting the silverstripe-graphql package, which serves Silverstripe data in GraphQL representations. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability byexecuting a recursive GraphQL query, leading to a Denial of Service (DoS) attack on a website. This issue primarily impacts websites with publicly exposed GraphQL schemas. If a user account is required to access the GraphQL schema, the risk of a DoS attack may be reduced. Websites hosted behind a CDN, such as Imperva or CloudFlare, may also provide additional protection. Users are strongly urged to upgrade to versions 3.8.2, 4.1.3, 4.2.5, 4.3.4, and 5.0.3 to mitigate this vulnerability. At present, there are no known workarounds for this issue.
