Summary

CVE-2023-40047 is a stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability found in the Management module of WS_FTP Server version prior to 8.8.2. This vulnerability allows an attacker with administrative privileges to import a malicious SSL certificate containing cross-site scripting payloads. Once stored, the attacker can target WS_FTP Server admins with a specialized payload that executes malicious JavaScript in the victims' browsers. The vulnerability affects multiple products, including s23HTA, s-pbSG, and s9ybXu. To remediate this issue, organizations should update their WS_FTP Server to version 8.8.2 or later. The potential danger of this vulnerability lies in the ability for an attacker to compromise the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive information within an organization, as well as potentially impacting the availability of the affected systems.
