Summary
CVE-2023-4001 is an authentication bypass vulnerability affecting GRUB, a popular bootloader used in Linux systems. The flaw arises due to GRUB's method of searching for configuration files based on the UUID of a device. An attacker can exploit this by attaching an external drive with a duplicate UUID, allowing them to bypass the GRUB password protection feature on UEFI systems. This issue was introduced in a downstream patch in Red Hat's grub2 package and does not impact the upstream GRUB package.
