Summary

CVE-2023-3943 is a critical stack-based Buffer Overflow vulnerability affecting ZkTeco-based OEM devices, including the ProFace X, Smartec ST-FR043, and ST-FR041ME models. This issue arises due to the absence of security mechanisms like stack canaries and Position Independent Execution (PIE). Hackers can exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code on these devices, even under restrictive conditions. The impacted firmware versions include ZAM170-NF-1.8.25-7354-Ver1.0.0 and potentially others. Device users are urged to apply patches as soon as they become available to mitigate this risk.
