Summary

CVE-2023-39362 is a critical vulnerability affecting Cacti, an open-source operational monitoring framework (version 1.2.24). A privileged user, with authenticated access, can exploit this issue by inputting a malicious SNMP string in the device configuration. This manipulated input enables command injection and ultimately results in remote code execution on the underlying server. The root cause lies in the `lib/snmp.php` file, where functions accept user inputs without proper validation or escape sequences, leading to the `exec` call. Upgrading to version 1.2.25 is the recommended mitigation, as there are currently no known workarounds for this vulnerability.
