Details
Summary
CVE-2023-38690 is a critical vulnerability that affects the matrix-appservice-irc, a Node.js IRC bridge for Matrix. Versions prior to 1.0.1 are susceptible to command injection due to improper parsing of newlines in crafted commands. This vulnerability allows an attacker to run malicious commands through the IRC bridge bot by using a string of commands as a channel name. The most effective way to remediate this vulnerability is by upgrading to version 1.0.1 or above, as these versions have been patched. Disabling dynamic channels in the configuration can also mitigate the risk, although other execution methods may still exist. The potential danger posed by this vulnerability is high, as it can lead to unauthorized execution of commands and compromise the integrity and confidentiality of affected systems and networks.
