CVSS 3.1 Score 10.0 of 10 (high)
Details
Summary
CVE-2023-38490 is a vulnerability affecting older versions of the Kirby content management system. This issue only impacts sites utilizing the `Xml` data handler or `Xml::parse()` method in site or plugin code, as these components allow XML External Entities (XXE) to be processed during parsing operations. Kirby's core does not use the vulnerable methods, but sites that process external XML files may be at risk, as attackers could potentially include malicious entities that lead to arbitrary file disclosure or server-side request forgery. The vulnerability has been resolved in the latest versions of Kirby (3.5.8.3, 3.6.6.3, 3.7.5.2, 3.8.4.1, and 3.9.6), as the maintainers removed the `LIBXML_NOENT` constant, thereby preventing the processing of XML external entities. Sites not using XML parsing in site or plugin code remain unaffected.
