Summary

CVE-2023-38428 is a vulnerability affecting the Linux kernel prior to version 6.3.4. In the fs/ksmbd/smb2pdu.c file of ksmbd, an out-of-bounds read occurs due to insufficient validation of the UserName value. The address of a security buffer is not properly considered, allowing attackers to read memory outside of the intended bounds. This vulnerability could potentially be exploited to gain unauthorized access or cause denial-of-service conditions. System administrators are strongly advised to update their Linux kernels to the latest version to mitigate this risk.
