Summary
CVE-2023-38139 is a newly disclosed Windows Kernel Elevation of Privilege vulnerability. This weakness allows an attacker to gain elevated privileges on an affected system, potentially enabling them to install malware, steal sensitive data, or take control of the system in question. The vulnerability exists in the way the Windows Kernel handles objects in memory, and successful exploitation requires the attacker to have a local presence or remote access using a specially crafted application. Microsoft is currently working on a patch to address this issue. Until a fix is available, it is strongly recommended that users apply the available mitigations and exercise caution when opening untrusted email attachments or downloading files from the internet.
