CVE-2023-37478 is a vulnerability in the package manager pnpm. It allows for the construction of a tarball that appears safe when installed via npm or parsed by the registry, but becomes malicious when installed via pnpm due to how it parses tar archives. This means that a package that seems secure on the npm registry or when installed via npm could be replaced with a compromised or malicious version when installed via pnpm. The issue has been patched in versions 7.33.4 and 8.6.8 of pnpm.
