Details
Summary
CVE-2023-37266 is a vulnerability that affects CasaOS, an open-source Personal Cloud system. Unauthenticated attackers can exploit this vulnerability by crafting arbitrary JWTs, allowing them to access features that typically require authentication and execute arbitrary commands as "root" on CasaOS instances. The issue has been addressed in CasaOS 0.4.4 through an improvement in the validation of JWTs, specifically in commit 705bf1f. To remediate the vulnerability, users are advised to upgrade to CasaOS 0.4.4. If upgrading is not possible, restricting access to CasaOS by untrusted users, such as avoiding public exposure, is recommended. The potential danger posed by this vulnerability is significant, with a base severity rating of "CRITICAL" and high impacts on integrity and confidentiality according to the CVSS:3.1 scoring system.
