Summary

CVE-2023-36839 is an Improper Validation of Specified Quantity in Input vulnerability found in the Layer-2 control protocols daemon (l2cpd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved. This vulnerability allows an unauthenticated adjacent attacker to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by sending specific LLDP packets. The impact of this vulnerability is the reinitialization of STP protocols, MVRP, ERP, and other services dependent on LLDP state such as PoE or VoIP device recognition. Various versions of Junos OS are affected by this vulnerability. There is a medium risk associated with this vulnerability, with a CVSS base score of 6.5. Remediation for this vulnerability involves updating to the appropriate patched versions provided by Juniper Networks.
