Summary

CVE-2023-36822 is a path traversal vulnerability in Uptime Kuma, a self-hosted monitoring tool, affecting versions prior to 1.22.1. Authenticated users can install plugins from an official list, but even though this feature is disabled in the web interface, the corresponding API endpoints are still accessible after login. The vulnerability arises because the plugin installation directory is not validated against the official list or sanitized, making it susceptible to path traversal attacks. Exploiting this vulnerability allows an authenticated attacker to delete files from the server running Uptime Kuma, potentially leading to data loss and rendering the system or Uptime Kuma itself unavailable.
