Summary

CVE-2023-36477 is a vulnerability affecting XWiki Platform, a generic wiki platform used for building applications. The vulnerability allows any user with edit rights to edit all pages in the CKEditor space, enabling them to carry out harmful actions such as removing technical documents and performing persistent cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks by editing the javascript configuration of CKEditor. To remediate this issue, users are advised to upgrade to XWiki versions 14.10.6 or 15.1, or apply the patch on the CKEditor Integration extension version 1.64.9 for XWiki older than 14.6RC1. If upgrading is not possible, restricting the edit and delete rights to a trusted user or group can address the issue. This vulnerability poses a significant danger to organizations as it can lead to loss of service and compromise the security of user data due to XSS attacks.
