CVE-2023-35946
CVSS 3.1 Score 5.5 of 10 (medium)
Details
Summary
CVE-2023-35946 is a vulnerability affecting Gradle, a build automation tool. Maliciously crafted dependency coordinates can manipulate Gradle into writing files to unintended locations, outside the dependency cache or overwriting existing files. This could lead to poisoning the dependency cache or overwriting important files on the filesystem where Gradle has write permissions. The exploitation requires control over a dependency repository used by the Gradle build or the ability to modify the configuration. Gradle has released patches (version 7.6.2 and 8.2) to prevent this vulnerability by refusing to cache dependencies with path traversal elements in their coordinates. If an upgrade is not possible, implementing dependency verification makes exploitation more challenging.
