Summary

CVE-2023-34455 is a vulnerability in snappy-java, a Java compressor/decompressor. Versions prior to 1.1.10.1 are affected by an unchecked chunk length vulnerability. This can result in a fatal error, such as a java.lang.NegativeArraySizeException or java.lang.OutOfMemoryError, depending on the input data provided. The function hasNextChunk in the SnappyInputStream.java file is responsible for checking if there are more chunks to read. To remediate this vulnerability, it is recommended to update to version 1.1.10.1 or later of snappy-java. This vulnerability poses a high risk to organizations as it can lead to unrecoverable fatal errors and potentially impact system stability and availability.
