Summary

CVE-2023-34250 is a vulnerability in Discourse, an open source discussion platform. It affects versions prior to 3.0.4 of the stable branch and version 3.1.0.beta5 of the beta and tests-passed branches. The vulnerability allows an attacker to use the new topics dismissal endpoint to determine the number of recently created topics in categories they do not have access to, without revealing the actual content of those topics. The issue has been patched in version 3.0.4 of the stable branch and version 3.1.0.beta5 of the beta and tests-passed branches. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability. The potential danger it poses to organizations is rated as medium, with a base score of 5.3 out of 10, according to NIST's CVSS rating system.
