Summary

CVE-2023-34195 is a vulnerability discovered in Insyde InsydeH2O firmware with kernel versions 5.0 through 5.5. The issue lies in the implementation of the GetImage method, which retrieves a runtime variable named GetImageProgress and uses it as a function pointer. However, this variable is cleared by the module near the end of the function. Exploiting this vulnerability allows an attacker to set a UEFI variable from the operating system to execute arbitrary code during the DXE phase before chipset locks are established. This vulnerability poses a high risk to organizations as it can lead to arbitrary code execution with high integrity and confidentiality impacts. Affected products include various i5NTh and t9y8Y series, as well as lRyF0y, tOMHRr, taskvp, taskvo, taskvr models.
