Summary

CVE-2023-28985 is an Improper Validation of Syntactic Correctness of Input vulnerability in the Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP) feature of Juniper Networks SRX Series and MX Series. This vulnerability allows an unauthenticated, network-based attacker to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by sending a specific malformed SSL packet. If the IDP is enabled on the affected devices and this packet is received, it can lead to a sustained DoS condition with the SSL detector crashing and causing an FPC core. This vulnerability affects Juniper Networks SRX Series and MX Series platforms prior to SigPack 3598. It is recommended to update to SigPack 3598 or later versions to remediate this vulnerability and prevent potential DoS attacks.
