Summary

CVE-2023-26045 is a critical vulnerability found in NodeBB, a Node.js based forum software. This vulnerability affects versions 2.5.0 to 2.8.7 and allows for the arbitrary execution of JavaScript files on the local disk through a specially crafted payload. The issue can be remediated by upgrading to version 2.8.7, which includes a patch for this vulnerability. As a temporary workaround, site maintainers can manually apply the fix by cherry-picking it into their codebase. This vulnerability poses a high danger to organizations using affected versions of NodeBB as it can lead to unauthorized access and potential compromise of sensitive data on the local disk.
