Summary

CVE-2023-21406 is a vulnerability discovered by Ariel Harush and Roy Hodir from OTORIO. The flaw affects the AXIS A1001 when communicating over OSDP. It is a heap-based buffer overflow in the pacsiod process, which handles the OSDP communication, allowing an attacker to write outside of the allocated buffer. By appending invalid data to an OSDP message, it is possible to write data beyond the allocated buffer and execute arbitrary code. Axis has released a security advisory with information on affected products and software versions, as well as mitigation measures to address the vulnerability. The National Vulnerability Database (NVD) has rated this vulnerability as high severity based on its impact on confidentiality and integrity, with an exploitability score of 2.8 out of 10.
