Summary
CVE-2023-20897 is a vulnerability that affects Salt masters prior to versions 3005.2 or 3006.2. This vulnerability allows for a denial of service (DOS) attack on the minion return functionality. If the master receives a certain number of bad packets on the request server, equal to the number of worker threads, it becomes unresponsive to return requests until it is restarted. This vulnerability poses a potential danger to organizations using affected Salt masters as it can disrupt the normal functioning of the system, potentially impacting productivity and availability. To remediate this vulnerability, organizations should update their Salt masters to version 3005.2 or 3006.2 or apply any necessary patches provided by the vendor.
