Summary

CVE-2023-20235 is a vulnerability in the on-device application development workflow feature for the Cisco IOx application hosting infrastructure in Cisco IOS XE Software. This vulnerability allows an authenticated, remote attacker to access the underlying operating system as the root user. Docker containers with the privileged runtime option are not blocked when they are in application development mode, which can be exploited by using the Docker CLI to access an affected device. The vulnerability affects multiple products and can potentially pose a high danger to organizations as it allows unauthorized access to sensitive systems. To remediate this vulnerability, organizations should ensure that the application development workflow feature is only used on development systems and not on production systems.
