Summary

CVE-2023-20083 is a vulnerability that affects the Snort 2 detection engine for Cisco Firepower Threat Defense (FTD) Software. This vulnerability allows an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause the CPU of an affected device to spike to 100 percent, resulting in a denial of service (DoS) condition. The vulnerability is caused by improper error checking in the ICMPv6 header parsing. To remediate this issue, the Snort 2 Detection Engine or the Cisco FTD device may need to be restarted. The potential danger posed by this vulnerability is the ability for an attacker to disrupt traffic processing on the affected device, leading to service interruptions and potential impact on the organization's operations.
