The above map describes mentions of the Affordable Care Act or plans for state-run insurance exchanges related to the next 22 months providing a road map for what to expect for implementation of new healthcare requirements in the United States. You can explore the live view for all of the details, but here are a few highlights and examples of what you’ll find:

  • From USA Today: As the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act lurches toward full implementation on Jan. 1, 2014, only a handful of states (California, Massachusetts, Maryland, Oregon and Washington) are likely to be truly ready to operate state exchanges by next October [2013].

  • From Modern Healthcare: While waiting for Michigan’s health insurance exchange to open in 2014, small businesses and individuals seeking health insurance have a few more options, with new products offered by UnitedHealthcare Michigan and Health Alliance Plan of Michigan.

  • From the Portland Press Herald: If the insurance committee decides to pursue the creation of a state exchange for 2015, Maine must notify the DHHS by Nov. 18, so the Legislature must act before this session ends in June.
