Details
Summary
CVE-2025-33028 is a new vulnerability affecting WinZip versions up to 29.0. This issue stems from an incomplete fix for a previous vulnerability, CVE-2024-8811. The flaw enables attackers to bypass the Mark-of-the-Web protection mechanism, allowing them to execute arbitrary code on affected systems. This can be accomplished by persuading the target user to visit a malicious webpage or open a maliciously crafted file. The vulnerability lies within the handling of archived files in WinZip. Specifically, when extracting files from a specially crafted archive bearing the Mark-of-the-Web, WinZip fails to propagate the marker to the extracted files, leaving them susceptible to attacks.
