Summary

CVE-2025-27423 is a vulnerability affecting the tar.vim plugin in Vim, a widely-used open source text editor. Starting from version 9.1.0858, the plugin utilizes the ":read" ex command to append content below the cursor position, but fails to sanitize the input. Maliciously crafted tar archives can exploit this flaw to execute shell commands, depending on the specific shell being used. This vulnerability has been resolved in Vim patch v9.1.1164.
