Details
Summary
CVE-2025-20229 is a Remote Code Execution (RCE) vulnerability affecting specific versions of Splunk Enterprise (below 9.3.3, 9.2.5, and 9.1.8) and Splunk Cloud Platform (below 9.3.2408.104, 9.2.2406.108, 9.2.2403.114, and 9.1.2312.208). An unprivileged user, who does not possess the "admin" or "power" Splunk roles, can exploit this flaw by uploading a file to the "$SPLUNK_HOME/var/run/splunk/apptemp" directory. The lack of proper authorization checks allows the user to execute arbitrary code, potentially leading to serious security consequences. Users of these affected versions are strongly encouraged to apply the relevant patches to mitigate the risk.
