Summary
CVE-2024-9258 is a remote code execution vulnerability affecting IrfanView, a popular image viewing software. This issue arises due to an uninitialized pointer in the SID file parsing functionality. An attacker can exploit this flaw by creating a malicious SID file or crafting a malicious webpage, leading the user to open or view it. Successful exploitation allows the attacker to execute arbitrary code in the context of the current process.
