Summary
CVE-2024-9195 is a vulnerability affecting the WHMPress - WHMCS Client Area plugin for WordPress. The issue stems from a missing capability check on the update_settings case within the /admin/ajax.php file, impacting all versions up to 4.3-revision-3. This flaw grants authenticated attackers with Subscriber-level access or higher the ability to modify arbitrary options on a WordPress site. Hackers can exploit this vulnerability to elevate privileges, updating the default role for registration to administrator and enabling user registration, ultimately granting them administrative access to the vulnerable site.
