Summary
CVE-2024-8861 is a stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting the ProfileGrid plugin for WordPress. Versions up to 5.9.3.2 are susceptible to this issue. The root cause lies in the plugin's misuse of the wp_kses_allowed_html function, which fails to restrict or validate the 'onclick' attribute properly for certain HTML elements. Consequently, authenticated attackers with Contributor-level access or higher can inject malicious scripts into pages, causing them to execute whenever a user visits an injected page.
