Summary
CVE-2024-8824 is a new information disclosure vulnerability affecting PDF-XChange Editor. This issue arises from an out-of-bounds read in the software's JB2 file parsing process. Attackers can exploit this vulnerability by crafting malicious files or web pages, requiring user interaction for successful exploitation. The flaw is caused by insufficient validation of user-supplied data, leading to reading past the end of an allocated object. While this vulnerability does not directly allow code execution, it can be combined with other vulnerabilities for more serious attacks. ZDI-CAN-24262 first disclosed this weakness.
