Summary

CVE-2024-5876 is a heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability in IrfanView's PSP file parsing process. This issue allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations by supplying malicious data to the software. The flaw arises due to insufficient validation of user-supplied data prior to copying it to a heap-buffers. Exploitation requires user interaction, such as visiting a malicious webpage or opening a malicious file. The vulnerability, discovered as ZDI-CAN-23973, can lead to serious security consequences if left unpatched.
