Summary
CVE-2024-5803 is a newly disclosed vulnerability affecting the AVGUI.exe component of AVG and Avast Antivirus versions prior to 24.1. This issue permits a local attacker to execute privilege escalation attacks through a COM hijack, exploiting the time-of-check to time-of-use (TOCTOU) vulnerability. When antivirus self-protection is disabled, an adversary can manipulate the system's checks, gaining higher privileges and potentially taking control of the affected system.
