Summary
CVE-2024-53059 is a vulnerability affecting the Linux kernel's wifi driver iwlwifi. This issue involves the mvm subdriver, where the response handling in the function iwl_mvm_send_recovery_cmd() is problematic. Specifically, the size of the response packet is not validated and the response buffer is not freed. These shortcomings can lead to memory leaks and potential exploitation. The vulnerability has been addressed by switching to the alternative function iwl_mvm_send_cmd_status(), which takes care of size validation and buffer freeing.
