Summary

CVE-2024-52802 is a vulnerability affecting the RIOT operating system used in IoT devices. The issue lies in the function `_parse_advertise` and `_preparse_advertise` in `/sys/net/application_layer/dhcpv6/client.c`, where there's no minimum header length check for `dhcpv6_opt_t`. This oversight can result in an out-of-bound read, potentially causing system inconsistencies. The same issue applies to the function `_preparse_advertise`, which is invoked before handling the request. At the time of publication, no patched version has been released to mitigate this vulnerability.
