Summary

CVE-2024-52533 is a newly disclosed vulnerability affecting the GLib library in the GNOME desktop environment. The issue lies in the gio/gsocks4aproxy.c file, where an off-by-one error occurs during the processing of SOCKS4 messages. Due to insufficient length validation, a buffer overflow can be triggered, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution or denial of service. This vulnerability can be exploited by sending specially crafted SOCKS4 packets to the affected system. Users are urged to update their GLib installation to version 2.82.1 or later to mitigate this risk.
